Electric Toothbrush Research Study (FBU)

The GO Health Center is currently recruiting participants for a study involving the use of an electric toothbrush to investigate the role of a novel bacterium after tooth brushing. Upon qualifying to participate, 3 visits to the GO Health Center, located within the UNC School of Dentistry, will be required.

You may be eligible to participate if you:

  • are between the ages of 18 and 80
  • are not wearing orthodontic braces
  • do not require antibiotics prior to dental treatment
  • are not missing your premolar or molar teeth, except wisdom teeth

Participants that successfully complete both visits of this research study will receive a free dental cleaning, free Philips Sonicare toothbrush and $20.00.

Genetic Research Study: IL-37 (ITS)

The GO Health Center is currently recruiting participants for a study investigating a new anti-inflammatory protein and its role in the oral cavity.

Upon qualifying to participate, 1-9 visits scheduled over a 6-month period to the GO Health Center, located within the UNC School of Dentistry, will be required. Subject samples, such as saliva, dental plaque, gingival crevicular fluid, and blood will be collected with participation in the study. Gingival tissue biopsies may be taken as part of this study; however, the subject has the choice to opt out of this procedure.

You may be eligible to participate if you:

  • are a Caucasian between the ages of 18 and 65
  • have 20 teeth, excluding wisdom teeth
  • do not have chronic disease with oral manifestations, including diabetes mellitus
  • do not require antibiotics prior to dental treatment
  • are not pregnant or planning a pregnancy within the next several months

Participants that successfully complete all visits for this research study will receive a $150 credit to be used for treatment in the GO Health Clinic, as well as $30 for each blood draw.

Dental Implant Research Study

The GO Health Center is currently recruiting participants to take part in a dental implant research study.

You may be eligible to participate in this research study if you:

  • have been diagnosed with osteoporosis
  • are between the ages of 21 and 80
  • do not require antibiotics prior to dental treatment
  • are currently missing teeth on both sides of your lower jaw
  • have implants as a future treatment need
  • are not pregnant or nursing
  • do not have active infectious diseases such as hepatitis, HIV or tuberculosis.
